Traficant to speak
AKRON: Former Congressman James Traficant will soon visit Akron.
Traficant, who was released in September after serving seven years in federal prison, will attend a fundraiser for Kurtis Liston, a local Libertarian candidate, at 7 p.m. Feb. 2 at Tangier restaurant, 532 W. Market St.
Liston, who is running for the 44th District seat held by Rep. Vernon Sykes, D-Akron, said the outspoken Traficant will deliver a ''no-holds-barred'' speech and meet and greet attendees.
Traficant, who was booted from Congress after his convictions for bribery, racketeering and tax evasion, is planning his own political comeback, though he hasn't said what office he'll seek. He'll have to decide soon, as the filing deadline for the May primary is Feb. 18.
Cost is $50 per person or $75 per couple. Register at http://www.listonforliberty.org. For more information, send an e-mail to campaign@listonforliberty.org or call 330-474-3725.
